CARRERA 257 EFFECT

Bill and Nancy Griffin's Carrera 257 Effect began life in 1998 with an 509  cubic inch Teague Custom Marine engine producing 850 horsepower. Bolted to the transom was a Bravo drive  and an IMCO stand-off box.  In this configuration the  boat was fully capable of breaking the magical 100-mph mark.  The boat also graced the cover of the August 1998 Hot Boat magazine. After a couple of seasons, Bill & Nancy ( mostly Bill! ) decided it was time to up the power production.  They turned to the services of Larry Peto who runs Larry's Speed & Marine out of Tucson, AZ.  The shortblock was stroked to 540 cubic inches using a Lunatic crank, rods and JE dished blower pistons. The original Merlin square port heads were retained. A solid roller cam was added and it was all topped off with a new Blower Shop 8-71 supercharger.  Peto dialed the motor in on his  dyno and was rewarded with a peak power reading of 1011 horsepower. This cat is now capable  of running 110 mph!
