March 5, 2005

Well we went to Firebird raceway for the NHRA Division 7 opener. Unfortunately, right after we paid our admission to the track, the skies opened up.  The picture below shows everything we saw for an hour or two We did wander through the pit's while teams performed routine maintenance to their racecars. We got a chance talk to one of the crewmembers of the Integra dragster that was running in the TAD class (with an injected nitro car)

The rain ceased, but it would be a while before they had the track dry enough to run the cars. Pro Autosports was running an event at the adjacent road course. A couple of friends were running over there, so we decided to wander over and see hat was going on. The first thing we saw when we walked into their pits was a brand new Ford GT. This is the first one I've actually seen up close. The few initial problems aside, I still think this is one great looking car. Any ride you can look in the back window and see a screw supercharger is one bad ride!

Bill and Lou had their pit set up. We actually caught Bill doing some minor "adjustments" to a brake caliper with a grinder I'm not sure what the thought process was when the graphics were chosen for this Mini Cooper

Well, they finally got the dragstrip dried and started running the cars. Unfortunately, due to the rain delays, NHRA had to restructure the qualifying schedule for the day. We never did get to see the Alcohol classes run before we had to leave for the day to to other commitments. I think Mother Nature eventually intervened again and washed out the Alcohol guys only qualifying session for that day. Anyhow, here's some pictures I shot from the Super Street and Super Gas sessions.

Here's two interesting cars we saw in the parking lot when we were leaving for the day.
