MARCH 28, 2004
Back to Firebird, this time on the west track. I only made it out for Sundays racing this month. Due to the large number of cars on the grounds, the Bondostangs didn't have their own Sunday Main race. Instead they ran in the Blue Group, but still maintaining a separate class.
The new racing slick wheel combo was available this weekend and met with mixed results. Some racers who were still running street tires thought the combo was great, while others who were running the other style race tires were not as pleased with the performance. There also appeared to be some tire interference on the cars.
BLUE GROUP QUALIFYING
| FINISHING POSITION | DRIVER | BEST LAP TIME (minutes) |
| 1 | Evan Korn | 01:10:124 |
| 2 | Jim Twombly | 01:10:128 |
| 3 | Donnie Henson | 01:11:373 |
| 4 | Mark MacVitte | 01:14:332 |

The two pictures above show why Donnie Henson ended up parking his Mustang equipped with the new tire/rim combo and ran Bill Griffins car instead. Bill still had the old style race tires and wheels.

Driver Jim Twombly really made strides this weekend. He switched from street tires to the new tire/wheel combo and than posted faster times each session as well as winning the race Sunday after a heated battle with Donnie Henson. This race came down to the very last turn and than the sprint for the finish. It was an exciting race!
Here are some of the other interesting cars from Sundays racing.
This Cobra bodied car was a full race effort. Check out the front suspension on this thing! Motivation comes from an all aluminum 427 Ford FE motor. This car was one of the front running cars all day.
This was another good Mustang. Unfortunate, too good. We heard this guy was force to move up a class with his production based car and run with full tube chassis racecar!
This first generation Camaro looks like an ex-Trans Am racer who is a regular at the Pro Autosports events.
Randy, who owns Performance Marine & Motorsports in Glendale, AZ runs this S-10 pickup at the races.

This Corvette is one of the few cars at the track that runs an automatic transmission. You can hear the distinctive sound of this car coming down the track. We found out the engine is built by popular builder Larry Peto of Larry's Engine & Marine.
